Convicted killer of Toronto police officer arrested in Victoria

Craig Munro, the man convicted of the 1980 murder of Toronto Police Service Const. Michael Sweet, has been arrested in Victoria. Police confirmed that Munro's parole has been revoked, and he is being held in custody. Details regarding any new charges he may be facing have not yet been released.

In March 1980, Munro and his brother entered a Toronto restaurant, brandishing firearms and demanding cash. An employee escaped and alerted a passing police car, leading Const. Sweet to enter the establishment. Tragically, Sweet was shot multiple times by Munro and died in the hospital after a prolonged period of suffering, during which he was taunted by the Munro brothers.

Sgt. Eddie Adamson, who defied orders to storm the restaurant in an attempt to save Sweet, was deeply affected by the event and died by suicide in 2005. Munro was convicted of first-degree murder in 1981 and sentenced to life imprisonment. He was granted parole two years prior to his recent arrest.
