Bakırköy council member arrested in 'Hat Wearers Crime Organization' probe

An investigation has been initiated into an alleged criminal organization identified as the 'Hat Wearers Crime Organization' (Şapkalılar Suç Örgütü). The probe was launched following reports of extortion attempts targeting an individual identified as Ş.Ç.

According to a statement from the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the organization is accused of demanding money from Ş.Ç. through threats communicated via social media accounts and various phone numbers. The investigation aims to uncover the full extent of the organization's activities and identify all involved parties.

As part of the investigation, Hülya Şimşek, a member of the Bakırköy Municipal Council and a lawyer, has been detained. Authorities believe Şimşek played a role as an instigator in the alleged crimes. Following legal procedures, Şimşek was brought before the Criminal Judgeship of Peace and subsequently arrested.

The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has stated that the investigation is being conducted under articles 106/2-d and 149/1-f of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK). These articles typically relate to offenses such as threats and aggravated intentional homicide or bodily harm, suggesting the seriousness of the alleged criminal activities.
