Bandung Barat Regional Government's Strategies to Reduce Unemployment Show Promising Results

The Bandung Barat regional government is actively pursuing various strategies to combat unemployment and expand access to job opportunities for its residents. Tackling joblessness is a key component of the administration's economic development and job creation mission.

Official data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) for Bandung Barat shows that as of August 2025, there were 67,927 unemployed individuals, resulting in an Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) of 6.60%. This figure represents a decrease of 0.50% compared to 2024, when the rate stood at 6.10%.

Bupati Bandung Barat, Jeje Ritchie Ismail, acknowledged the positive trend but stressed the need for a comprehensive view, noting that the number of people entering the workforce is also increasing. "Therefore, the regional government's attention is not only focused on reducing the numbers but also on expanding employment opportunities that directly benefit the community," he stated.

To achieve these goals, the Bandung Barat Manpower Office has launched and prepared several programs. These initiatives aim to equip job seekers with necessary skills, provide them with job market information, and facilitate access to employment both domestically and abroad. Programs include competency-based training, job fairs, walk-in interviews, apprenticeships, career guidance, job seeker card services, and special job market facilitation in schools. The government also supports job placement for people with disabilities and facilitates the procedural placement of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI).
