Bandung DPRD Highlights Rising Street Crime, Plans Security Meeting

Bandung city officials are addressing a surge in public complaints about street robberies and other crimes. The city council's Commission I is taking these reports seriously, recognizing that public safety is paramount. Secretary Susanto Triyogo stated that the commission will convene a working meeting with the Bandung Metropolitan Police and the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) to assess the current security situation and devise countermeasures.

"We have received various inputs and reports from the public regarding the increase in street crime. This condition must be a shared concern as it affects public safety," Susanto said on Monday. The meeting aims to gather explanations from law enforcement on security developments, legal actions taken, and future prevention strategies. Susanto emphasized the need for enhanced preventive measures, including increased patrols during high-risk hours, particularly at night and in the early morning. He also called for better use of surveillance cameras in strategic locations to aid monitoring and enforcement.

Furthermore, Susanto advocated for strengthening early warning systems at the community level and fostering closer collaboration between security forces, local government, and residents. The state's presence must be truly felt by the public through tangible actions that provide a sense of security," he added.

Commission I supports the formation of joint patrols if the security situation warrants more intensive action, potentially involving the police, Satpol PP, and the military. Meanwhile, Susanto advised the public to remain vigilant, especially when out at night. Residents are encouraged to avoid traveling alone in deserted areas, refrain from displaying valuables excessively, and promptly report suspicious activities to the authorities. Susanto expressed optimism that through enhanced surveillance, law enforcement, and active community participation, Bandung can remain a safe and conducive city for all its residents.
