Bangladesh Confirms No Admission Tests for Class 1 from 2027

Dhaka, Bangladesh – The Ministry of Education has announced that admission tests will not be implemented for Class 1 admissions from the 2027 academic year, confirming the continuation of the lottery-based system for entry-level students. This decision aims to reduce pressure on young children and curb irregularities in the admission process.

Students will continue to be admitted to Class 1 through a lottery system, according to a press release issued by Abdullah Shibli Sadiq, the ministry's senior information officer. However, the ministry clarified that admissions to all other classes in primary and secondary schools will still require students to pass admission tests.

The announcement comes amid significant concern among parents. Earlier indications from ministry officials suggested the government was considering introducing admission tests for classes 1 through 9, beginning in 2027. Following these remarks, many parents had already started enrolling their children in coaching centers to prepare them for potential entrance exams.

The ministry also stated that the results for this year's Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations are scheduled to be published on August 10.
