Bangladesh Election Commission to Meet Acting Speaker on Presidential Election Schedule

Bangladesh's Election Commission (EC) is preparing to hold a mandatory pre-schedule meeting with the acting Speaker to discuss the timeline for the upcoming presidential election. The EC's Senior Secretary, Akhtar Ahmed, announced this development following a meeting at the commission's headquarters.

According to EC regulations, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) must meet with the Speaker before the election schedule can be formally announced. Consequently, CEC AMM Nasir Uddin is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on acting Speaker Qaiser Kamal.

Earlier on the same day, the CEC, election commissioners, and the EC secretary convened to review the legal aspects pertinent to the presidential election. This preparatory meeting underscores the commission's commitment to adhering to procedural requirements.

The impetus for these actions is the recent resignation of President Mohammed Shahabuddin on July 24, who cited health complications as the reason for stepping down. The EC's swift engagement with the acting Speaker signals an effort to ensure a timely and orderly transition of power.
