Bangladesh expands digital bail system to 28 districts

Bangladesh has expanded its digital e-bail bond system to 12 additional districts, bringing the total coverage to 28. Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman officially launched the system, which aims to significantly speed up bail processing and reduce harassment for those involved in legal proceedings.

The online system streamlines the traditional 12-step bail bond process down to just two steps. This digital transformation allows lawyers to submit bail bonds remotely using smartphones, with instant confirmation via a one-time password (OTP). The law minister highlighted that this initiative will make the release of bailed-out individuals faster, easier, and more transparent.

During the launch event, Asaduzzaman noted the system's effectiveness, citing that approximately 120,000 e-bail bonds have already been processed online in the initial 16 districts over recent months. He also touched upon the government's focus on mediation and legal aid to tackle case backlogs, mentioning potential incentives for districts that show marked progress in reducing pending cases and increasing disposal rates.
