Authorities in Khagrachhari town detained a 47-year-old woman, identified as Premrasho Marma, during a joint operation by the district administration and the Forest Department. The operation, conducted around 8:00 PM in the Chenggi Square area, resulted in the recovery of five sacks containing 24 Bengal monitor lizards.

Officials reported that 10 of the lizards were alive and 14 were deceased at the time of recovery. Premrasho Marma stated that she had purchased the lizards for Tk 22,000 from Baraiyarhat in Chattogram and transported them to Khagrachhari with the intention of selling them.

In response, the 10 live monitor lizards were released into their natural habitat in the Alutila forest that same night. The dead lizards were subsequently buried. Khagrachhari Divisional Forest Officer Md Farid Meah affirmed that legal action would be pursued against individuals involved in capturing or hunting wildlife, and the Forest Department pledged to continue regular enforcement drives to protect wildlife. Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Durjoy Goswami confirmed that Premrasho was sent to the Khagrachhari Sadar Police Station, with instructions for police to file a case against her.
