Suspect arrested in Sylhet triple murder case

Police in Sylhet, Bangladesh, detained Babul Miah, 40, as the prime suspect in the brutal murder of an elderly couple and their teenage domestic helper. The victims were identified as MA Sattar, 82, his wife Suraiya Begum, 72, and their help, Tahmina, 15.

Babul confessed to the crime during primary interrogation.

Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sarwar Murshed Shamim stated that Miah, a house painter, confessed to the crime during initial interrogation. According to the commissioner, Miah admitted to an argument with Tahmina while he was at the couple's home. The dispute escalated, leading him to stab her. Hearing the commotion, the elderly couple emerged from their room, and Miah attacked them as well before escaping through the balcony.

He told police that while painting apartments in the building, he got into a relationship with Tahmina.

The bodies were discovered around 11:00 AM in Raynagar, with all three victims having their throats slit. Sattar was a businessman and a member of the Sylhet Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The couple's four children reside abroad. Police are currently filing a case and continuing their investigation into the incident.
