Bangladesh initiates process to bring back former IGP Benazir Ahmed from UAE

Bangladesh is initiating the process to bring former Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed back from the United Arab Emirates, according to Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir. The home ministry has begun the necessary procedures, and discussions are ongoing regarding his situation.

Kobir addressed reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, responding to media reports that Benazir Ahmed had been released on bail in the UAE. He stated that if there is any progress, updates will be provided by the home or foreign ministry. He also noted that he had just come from a meeting and it would be inappropriate to comment on matters he was not fully aware of.

Benazir Ahmed was arrested in Dubai by UAE police following a case filed against him by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in Bangladesh. Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed disclosed this development in parliament on June 14, stating that UAE authorities had informed the Bangladesh government of the arrest on June 12. The minister described the arrest as a significant success for the Bangladesh Police and vowed to bring him back soon.
