Banten government partners with community group to channel public aspirations

The provincial government of Banten, Indonesia, has formalized a strategic partnership with the community organization Matahari Pagi Indonesia (MPI). This collaboration aims to facilitate the communication of public aspirations and strengthen the bridge between citizens and the government.

Governor Andra Soni emphasized the significant role of community organizations like MPI as essential social capital for regional development. He expressed his confidence that MPI will effectively represent the voices of residents who may hesitate to approach the government directly. "I am confident that MPI can represent the hopes of the community to be communicated to the government. Then, we can synergize these into policies that align with the hopes and philosophy of Matahari Pagi," Soni stated.

MPI is expected to play an active role in supporting Banten's priority programs, which include initiatives for free nutritious meals, free health checks, agricultural productivity enhancement, community schools, and subsidized housing. The organization's leadership has affirmed its readiness to focus on consistent social and cultural movements that yield tangible positive impacts for the community.

Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, Chairman of the Central Advisory Council for MPI, welcomed the synergy, highlighting the importance of small, impactful actions. "Small movements, but they can have an impact. For example, cleaning places of worship, providing free meals for the less fortunate, and promoting clean toilets in schools," he said.

The Provincial Head of MPI for Banten, Nurcholis Ali Sya'bana, detailed plans for tangible actions, including distributing free nutritious meals via food trucks and implementing empowerment programs for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), with a particular focus on individuals with disabilities. "We will support, at a minimum, by providing initial capital assistance from Matahari Pagi Indonesia. Hopefully, in the future, there will be more assistance, so all residents of Banten can feel it," Nurcholis added.
