Banyuwangi SAR and Angkasa Pura strengthen cooperation for aircraft accident response

The Banyuwangi Search and Rescue (SAR) office and PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia have formalized a partnership to bolster their response capabilities for aircraft accidents. A memorandum of understanding was signed at Banyuwangi Airport in East Java, establishing a framework for a swift, precise, effective, and coordinated emergency response system for aviation incidents.

He highlighted the importance of clear operational coordination guidelines to ensure search and rescue operations are safer and more integrated. "This is a concrete step to strengthen synergy between the Banyuwangi SAR Office and PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia in handling aircraft accident emergencies," Astawa stated during the signing ceremony with Mohammad Holik Muardi, General Manager of Banyuwangi International Airport.

Astawa noted Banyuwangi's strategic position as a key air transport gateway in the eastern part of Java Island. Consequently, the readiness of all emergency response elements must be continuously reinforced through cross-sectoral collaboration. "We are optimistic that this collaboration will further strengthen preparedness and the effectiveness of search and rescue operations in Banyuwangi and its surrounding areas," he asserted.

The agreement clarifies the roles and responsibilities of each party during an aviation emergency. The Banyuwangi SAR Office will handle information exchange, receive and relay alerts for aircraft in distress, update data, and report the conclusion of operations. Angkasa Pura Indonesia, the airport operator, will provide data, information, and resources. In the event of an accident near the airport, the airport authority may also delegate the leadership of the field command post to Basarnas.
