Barcelona’s Araujo completes loan move to Liverpool

Uruguay international Ronald Araujo has completed a season-long loan move to Liverpool from Barcelona. The Spanish champions announced the deal on Monday, with Spanish press reporting Liverpool will cover the player's wages and hold a 55 million euro option to buy.

Araujo, who is under contract with Barcelona until 2031, found his playing time limited under manager Hansi Flick. Youngster Pau Cubarsi has become a key figure in Barcelona's defense, pushing Araujo further down the pecking order. Last season, the 27-year-old defender made only 35 appearances across all competitions, even taking time off for mental exhaustion. Despite returning in January, he faced competition from other defenders like Eric García and Gerard Martín.

Araujo joins a Liverpool side in need of defensive reinforcements. With Ibrahima Konate's departure to Real Madrid and injuries to Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni, the Uruguayan is expected to partner Virgil van Dijk.
