Barcelona visit Sevilla as Real Madrid face Eibar in women’s league second round

Barcelona’s first away match of the season will test the reigning Liga F champions against Sevilla on Saturday, in one of the main attractions of the second round.

Barcelona began its title defense with a 5-0 win over Costa Adeje Tenerife. Caroline Graham Hansen provided two assists, while defender Renee van Asten scored her first goal for the club. Sevilla also opened the campaign with a notable result, winning 1-0 away to Deportivo Abanca.

Real Madrid will host Eibar as it tries to end Barcelona’s uninterrupted league dominance since the 2019-20 season. Madrid enters the match after beating Atlético Madrid 3-2 and securing qualification for the Women’s Champions League group stage. Eibar also won its opener, defeating Espanyol 1-0.

Madrid will be without Felicia Schröder, who scored twice in the first half against Atlético but was later sent off for an unsporting action involving Rosa Otermín. Atlético will also lack Gio Garbelini after her red card for violent conduct, although summer signing Jenni Hermoso could make the squad for Sunday’s home match against newly promoted Deportivo Alavés.

The round opens with Espanyol against Badalona Women, with both teams seeking their first points after losing their opening games. Espanyol fell to Eibar, while Badalona surrendered an early goal from Irina Uribe and lost 3-1 to Athletic Club. Newly promoted Valencia will play its first home match in the top flight against Madrid CFF after losing 2-0 to Deportivo Alavés. Madrid CFF began with a 3-1 win over Granada.
