Baseball: Former Uni-Lions first-round pick Huang Yong-chuan wins Gold Glove in China, quickly gets a hit after returning to CPB

Former Uni-Lions infielder Huang Yong-chuan made a quick impact after returning to China’s CPB Summer Solstice League, collecting a hit in his first game for the Xiamen Dolphins.

The 22-year-old was the Uni-Lions’ first selection in the 2022 draft and played 46 games in Taiwan’s top league, batting .258. The team released him in May two years ago over personal borrowing issues, and no other club signed him afterward. He later resumed his baseball career in China.

Huang played for the Fuzhou Sea Heroes in this year’s Spring Equinox League, appearing in 16 games and going 15-for-52 with no home runs and seven RBIs. He batted .288 and won a Gold Glove at second base.

After initially missing from the Summer Solstice League, Huang returned in a Xiamen Dolphins uniform against the Shenzhen Blue Socks. Starting at second base, he went 1-for-4, leaving him with a .250 batting average after the game.
