Basketball-WM: Geiselsöder contract suspended, joins national team early

Luisa Geiselsöder will be available for the German women's basketball team's entire World Cup preparation, a move facilitated by her club, the Portland Fire.

The 26-year-old has been granted an early release because she is no longer part of the club's plans. Her contract has been suspended until the end of the season, according to U.S. media reports.

Geiselsöder expressed her excitement about joining the team early. "I am hugely looking forward to joining the team now, seeing the girls and being able to participate in the entire preparation, including the test matches," she stated.

While Geiselsöder was initially a starter in Portland, playing 21 games, she has recently been sidelined. The German team begins its training camp in Ludwigsburg today, with their first practice scheduled for Monday. A test match against Spain is set for Saturday.

Other WNBA players, including Leonie Fiebich, Satou Sabally, Nyara Sabally, and Frieda Bühner, will join the team closer to the World Cup in Berlin (September 4-13) as they are still competing in the U.S. National coach Olaf Lange will also join later due to his assistant coaching role in Toronto.
