Basketball: Women's National Team Confirms Two-Time Champion Coach for August South American Championship

The Federación Uruguaya de Basketball (FUBB) has made a significant move by appointing Gino Alderete as the new head coach for the women's national team. This decision, coming ahead of the South American Championship, signals a clear intent to revitalize the team's performance. Alderete brings a proven track record, including two LFB championships and a South American League final appearance with Defensor Sporting. His success with Defensor Sporting, breaking Malvín's long-standing dominance, and his consistent performance with Yale in reaching semifinals, demonstrate his coaching prowess. For Uruguayan basketball, this appointment is particularly noteworthy. It reflects a growing confidence in our domestic talent and coaching capabilities. While international coverage might focus on the coaching change itself, for us in Uruguay, it's about building on recent successes and aiming higher. The team's goal is to reverse the disappointing last-place finish from the previous tournament and reclaim the pride shown in the 2022 edition and the Odesur Games bronze medal.
