Batam City Government Ensures Students Without Children's ID Can Register for New School Year

The Batam City government has assured prospective students that they can register for the 2026/2027 academic year even if they do not possess an Indonesian Children's Identity Card (KIA). This inclusive policy aims to guarantee that every school-aged child has an equal opportunity to access education, removing administrative hurdles that might otherwise prevent enrollment.

Rudi Panjaitan, Head of the Batam City Communication and Informatics Office, stated that parents need not worry if their child lacks a KIA during the registration process. "Those who have a KIA should upload it, and those who don't can just ignore it. The government ensures that no child will lose their right to education simply because they haven't obtained a KIA. Students can still participate in the registration process according to the applicable regulations," Rudi explained on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

Although KIA is listed among the required documents, the Education Agency is providing flexibility for applicants who have not yet acquired one. This measure reflects the government's commitment to providing inclusive and accessible educational services for all citizens. To further assist parents, Batam City has established service posts at each school to offer guidance for those facing difficulties with the online system or document uploads.

Registration for elementary and junior high schools is scheduled from June 8 to 13 for affirmation and achievement tracks, with results to be announced on June 16. Subsequently, the domicile and transfer pathway registration will take place from June 17 to 23, with results released on June 25. The entire process is conducted online via the system prepared by the Batam City Education Agency. Rudi emphasized that the registration system operates 24 hours a day, allowing access at any time. Parents are encouraged to prepare the necessary documents early, as they will need to be scanned and uploaded during the online application.
