Bathroom and kitchen renovations in Buenos Aires remain costly in August 2026

Remodeling a bathroom or kitchen in Buenos Aires continues to be a significant financial undertaking, with costs remaining stubbornly high in both local and U.S. dollar terms. A recent report from Reporte Inmobiliario indicates that renovating a small bathroom costs around $8.8 million pesos, while a standard kitchen renovation can reach nearly $9.7 million pesos. Combined, these essential renovations for a typical apartment demand an investment of approximately $18.45 million pesos, equivalent to US$12,904 based on early May's blue-dollar exchange rate.

The year-on-year increase in pesos for bathroom renovations stands at 20.91%, with kitchen renovations seeing a 16.55% rise. Despite these increases in local currency, the cost in U.S. dollars has remained relatively stable, reflecting broader economic conditions. Germán Gómez Picasso, founder of Reporte Inmobiliario, notes that the upward trend in pesos, driven by labor and material costs, makes a price decrease unlikely. He advises that "remodel now because tomorrow will always be more expensive."

Several factors contribute to the sustained high costs. Gómez Picasso points to constant increases in materials and labor, the rising cost of construction commodities, and a scarcity of specialized labor. The broader construction cost index in the Greater Buenos Aires area, as reported by INDEC, shows a 2.6% increase in June alone, bringing the year-to-date rise to 16.7%. This persistent inflation, coupled with a stable dollar for longer than anticipated, keeps renovation expenses elevated.
