Bauchi man arrested after allegedly shooting 25-year-old neighbour

Police in Bauchi State arrested a 25-year-old man after his neighbour suffered a fatal gunshot wound in Rinjin Gura village, authorities said.

Jabir Yusuf allegedly fired a Dane gun at Hassan Mohamed, also 25, in the Toro Local Government Area. A resident of Zalau Ward reported the incident to the Rishi Divisional Police Station, according to a statement from police spokesperson Nafiu Habib.

Officers from the Gumau Division went to the scene and took Mohamed to Toro General Hospital. A doctor pronounced him dead after he sustained what police described as fatal injuries to the neck. His body was later released to his family for burial under Islamic rites.

Police said they apprehended Yusuf and recovered the Dane gun as an exhibit. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for discreet investigation and possible prosecution. Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu ordered a full inquiry and warned that people who illegally possess or recklessly use firearms will face the consequences of the law.

The corpse was profiled and released to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites. The suspect has been apprehended, and the Dane gun recovered as exhibit.
