Police hunt armed robbers in Delta community, recover gun

Delta police are hunting two masked men who allegedly attacked a 48-year-old man at his home in Effurun after he fought back and forced them to abandon their firearm.

The suspects allegedly broke into the residence in the Charlisco area of NPA Express Road, Effurun, at about 5:30 a.m. on September 4. Police spokesman Bright Edafe said the victim confronted the suspect carrying a locally made shotgun and wrestled with him until the weapon broke. The second suspect then struck the victim on the forehead, and both men fled.

Police recovered the broken firearm after the incident was reported at the Ekpan Division. The victim was taken to hospital for treatment, while officers began efforts to track down the suspects. Commissioner of Police Samuel E. Erale commended the victim’s courage and assured him that the suspects would be arrested.

In a courageous act, the victim confronted and wrestled with the suspect carrying the firearm, during which the gun broke.

In a separate operation, officers from the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit in Ubulu-Uku arrested 40-year-old Joy Anthony, whom police suspect of dealing drugs. The arrest took place in Agbor on September 6 after officers conducted a covert operation and executed a search warrant at Anthony’s residence in Agbor-Obi.

Police said they recovered quantities of Swinol, Tramadol, Codeine, Canadian Loud and weeds suspected to be Indian hemp. Anthony and the exhibits remain in police custody as the investigation continues.
