Bear with cubs possibly sighted in Riga's Pārdaugava district

Riga municipal authorities have received information about a possible bear sighting with cubs in the Imanta district. The report, dated Saturday, July 25, has prompted a call for public caution.

Wild animals entering urban environments can pose risks to both humans and the animals themselves. Riga's Deputy Mayor, Edvards Ratnieks, emphasized the importance of remaining calm, not approaching the animal, and immediately informing the relevant services if a bear is spotted. He warned that a mother bear protecting her cubs could become aggressive if she perceives a threat.

To ensure public safety and protect the animals, residents are advised not to approach, photograph, or feed the bear. They should slowly retreat if the animal is nearby, keep dogs on leashes, and not exit vehicles if a bear is present. Authorities are investigating the report and coordinating with emergency services to manage the situation.
