Beat Generation anthology by Kerouac, Ginsberg, Ferlinghetti available free online

A new digital anthology titled "Beat," featuring the poetry of key Beat Generation figures, has been released and is available for free download in PDF format. Curated, translated, and edited by Vojo Šindolić, the collection offers over a hundred poems from seven seminal poets of the movement.

This anthology marks the debut of a new PDF-only library, "Besplatne elektroničke knjige" (BEK), which focuses on poetic works requiring specific design considerations. The project was published by the Society for the Promotion of Literature in New Media (DPKM) with financial support from the Croatian Ministry of Culture and Media and the City of Zagreb.

The featured poets include Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, Gregory Corso, Gary Snyder, Michael McClure, and Peter Orlovsky. These authors are recognized for their profound impact not only on American literature but also on broader cultural currents of the 20th century. The Beat Generation, emerging in the late 1940s and peaking in the mid-1950s, was characterized by a group of writers and artists who reshaped American literature and extended their influence to music, film, theater, visual arts, and the counterculture movements of the 1960s.

Vojo Šindolić, a Dubrovnik-based poet, translator, and anthologist, brings a deep, long-standing connection to Beat literature to this project. His work as a translator and anthologist presents Beat poetry as a vibrant literary force, defined by rhythm, voice, performance, and direct experience. The selection highlights the Beat poets' influence on subsequent artists such as Bob Dylan, Patti Smith, Jim Morrison, Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, and David Bowie, underscoring their role in shaping literature as a space for freedom, rebellion, and creative risk.
