Beautification of Gambir Station to Showcase New Era for Railways

Gambir Station in Jakarta is set for a significant transformation through a beautification project, a directive directly from the President of Indonesia. The initiative aims to present Gambir as a showcase, a "new face" for the nation's railway services, according to Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi.

The President hopes we can beautify Gambir Station, expecting that with its newest appearance, Gambir will become a kind of showcase or new face for our railway services.

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) will spearhead this project, focusing on developing Gambir Station into a vital transportation hub. The plan includes integrating services for both the KRL Commuter Line and long-distance trains (KAJJ). This move is intended to strengthen inter-railway connectivity and introduce a more modern appearance to the station.

Currently, Gambir Station does not serve the KRL Commuter Line. However, the planned development will not alter Manggarai Station's role as a primary national railway hub. Instead, Gambir will be enhanced as a center for integrated train services, offering both KRL and KAJJ to the public, solidifying its role as an "etalase konektivitas" or a showcase of railway connectivity.

Gambir will later serve KAJJ and KRL to serve the public. We want to make Gambir a showcase of connectivity from railway services.

The government is still evaluating the optimal mix of KRL and long-distance train services to be accommodated at Gambir. Concurrently, the track capacity will be upgraded to handle the anticipated increase in train movements. This ensures the station can efficiently manage the additional services, supporting the vision of a modernized and interconnected railway system.

Not all of it is possible, later we will see how many KRLs will be served there, then how many long-distance trains. What is certain is that there will be an increase in the number of tracks to accommodate long-distance trains and also KRLs.
