Becal 2026: Five steps to apply for one of 84 postgraduate and language scholarships

Paraguay’s National “Carlos Antonio López” Scholarship Program, known as Becal, has opened applications for 84 university and professional training scholarships this semester.

The opportunities target professionals and researchers seeking master’s degrees, doctorates, postdoctoral studies, specializations and undergraduate mobility at leading universities abroad. The call also includes language courses within Paraguay.

The entire process takes place online. Applicants should first visit Becal’s applicant website and download the Guide to Rules and Conditions for the scholarship they want. The guide sets out academic requirements, deadlines, financial coverage and the obligations recipients must meet.

Applicants must then gather current documentation. The required materials include a clear, up-to-date copy of an identity card, police and judicial records that remain valid beyond the application deadline, and a university admission letter showing that classes begin in the following semester. Independent professionals must also have an active taxpayer registration with the National Directorate of Tax Revenues and provide tax declaration records, including VAT and personal income tax filings.

The next step is to register on Conacyt’s SPI application platform, where applicants manage admission, evaluation, interviews and final selection. They must select the relevant call, enter their identity-card number and birth date in the personal-data section, and use the search function to populate their details. After completing the sworn declaration and accepting the terms, they can upload the digital documents. The article warns that missing even one requirement will exclude an application from the process.
