Bech: Zorniger should have broken the glass ceiling, not the foundation at OB

No one at OB stands above the club, declared sports director Troels Bech, following the surprising dismissal of head coach Alexander Zorniger. Bech cited "cooperation difficulties" as the primary reason for the decision, emphasizing that leadership decisions must be implemented without obstruction.

Bech suggested that Zorniger's strong personality, while capable of driving a club forward, also presented challenges. "Alex is a person with very strong opinions on many things. And it's not necessarily always in line with what we want," Bech explained. "He was given the task of breaking through a glass ceiling, but we also need to be careful not to break through the foundation."

Zorniger, who joined OB last May and led them to an eighth-place finish in the Superliga, had a three-year contract. Bech acknowledged that he was aware of potential collaboration issues, having known Zorniger from their time together at Brøndby IF. "That's also the gain with Alex, who divides opinion. Following Zorniger's departure, Thomas Thomasberg has been appointed as the new head coach. Thomasberg, 51, previously coached FC Midtjylland and Randers FC. His debut will be on Monday when OB hosts Sønderjyske in the Superliga.
