Bennu Gerede detained over 'obscenity' probe

Photographer Bennu Gerede, widely recognized for her participation in the 2013 "Survivor" reality competition, is facing legal scrutiny after remarks made on a YouTube program. The Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into Gerede for alleged "obscenity" under Article 226 of the Turkish Penal Code.

The investigation stems from comments Gerede made about a necklace she wore, which she described as a "portable vibrator." This statement has prompted the prosecutor's office to initiate proceedings ex officio, meaning on its own initiative.

As a result of the investigation, an arrest warrant has been issued for Gerede. The photographer, who was born in Istanbul in 1971, has a notable public profile, including her appearance on the popular reality show and her background as a granddaughter of former ambassador Col. Hüsrev Gerede and film director Canan Gerede.

Gerede has previously shared personal experiences, including instances of domestic violence, in her 2019 autobiographical novel "Ben, Ben Nü." She has been married and divorced twice and has four sons.
