Berlin celebrates LGBTI Pride Day with hundreds of thousands of participants

Berlin marked its LGBTI Pride Day with a vibrant march, anticipating hundreds of thousands of attendees under sunny, summer conditions. The event, locally known as CSD (Christopher Street Day), is one of the German capital's largest celebrations.

This year's theme, 'Haltung is hot,' translates to 'Taking a stance is attractive,' reflecting a call for active participation and visible support. The parade featured 83 floats and 55 groups marching on foot, filling the city's main arteries with color and energy.

The CSD tradition in Berlin traces its roots back to the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in New York's Greenwich Village, named after Christopher Street, a site of early gay rights protests following a police raid. The commemoration in Berlin has grown into a major cultural event.

To manage the large crowds and ensure safety, the Berlin Police deployed a significant operation involving 2,200 officers across the city, supported by a helicopter. Festivities began on Friday with a 'drag queens' event in the city center, setting a festive tone for the main parade on Saturday, which drew crowds to Berlin's most iconic locations.
