Bersatu Terengganu faces leadership crisis as three senior leaders resign

Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) in Terengganu is facing a leadership crisis following the resignations of three senior party officials, including the state party chief, Datuk Razali Idris. Idris, who also serves as the State Assemblyman for Kijal, submitted his resignation letter to Bersatu President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on July 16 but has not yet received a response.

I have sent my resignation letter as the Head of the Terengganu Bersatu Leadership Body to Tan Sri Muhyiddin on the middle of last month.

Idris, who has held the position of state party chief for approximately 10 years, declined to elaborate on the reasons behind his decision. He confirmed that he submitted his resignation as the head of the Terengganu Bersatu leadership body and also intends to step down as the Marang Bersatu Division Chief next month after completing administrative tasks. He stressed that he will remain a member of Bersatu.

Joining Idris in stepping down are two other state assemblymen: Mohd. Zawawi Ismail, the Assemblyman for Telemong and State Information Chief, and Mohd Husaimi Hussin, the Assemblyman for Hulu Besut and State Treasurer. Reports suggest that the Deputy Head of the Terengganu Bersatu Leadership Body, Khazan Che Mat, may also follow suit.

So far, the party headquarters including Muhyiddin have not confirmed or made a decision whether to accept or reject the resignation.

Khazan, who is also the Kuala Nerus Bersatu Division Chief and Deputy Speaker of the Terengganu State Assembly, remained tight-lipped but hinted at his stance. He stated that he joined Bersatu in 2016 at Idris's invitation and questioned the purpose of remaining in his position if Idris were to resign.
