Better Late Than Safe: Appointing the Opposition Leader

PAS, through its President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, reaffirms its principled position on the appointment of the new Opposition Leader. We believe that such a significant decision, impacting not only PAS but all component parties and Members of Parliament within the Perikatan Nasional (PN) bloc, requires meticulous deliberation. Rushing this process would be imprudent and could undermine the unity and strategic direction of the opposition.

Our stance, as reported by Utusan Malaysia, is that the selection process must be comprehensive, taking into account the views and considerations of all parties involved. This is not a decision to be made lightly or unilaterally. It necessitates a thorough review of opinions and a consensus-building approach to ensure that the chosen leader commands the respect and support of the entire opposition coalition.

While some voices within PN may advocate for a swift appointment, PAS prioritizes stability and strategic foresight. A strong and effective opposition requires a leader who is not only capable but also has the mandate of the coalition. Therefore, we advocate for patience and due diligence, ensuring that the final decision reflects the collective will and best interests of the opposition bloc.
