Bishop says Monsignor Bogarín remains a light guiding the Church

Fifty years after Monsignor Ramón Pastor Bogarín Argaña’s death, Bishop Osmar López called his example a continuing light for the Church and Paraguayan society.

The tribute took place during a Eucharistic celebration at the cathedral in San Juan Bautista, Misiones. Bogarín was the first bishop of the Diocese of San Juan Bautista de las Misiones. López, bishop of Misiones and Ñeembucú, said the former bishop’s testimony should continue guiding the diocese.

Referring to Jesus’ teaching about placing a lamp where it can illuminate those who enter, López said Bogarín’s life should remain visible through the Church’s work. “Today, 50 years after the passing of Monsignor Bogarín Argaña, we would like his life testimony to continue illuminating the journey of the Church, particularly our diocesan Church,” he said.

López also expressed hope that Bogarín’s legacy would reach beyond the diocese, throughout Paraguay and even the wider world. He said the former bishop’s testimony could inspire people to pursue the common good and the Gospel values of justice, truth and love.

Students from the San Estanislao de Kostka Parish School in Santa Rosa opened the celebration with a play about Bogarín’s life. They portrayed his years as a student, his decision to become a priest, his appointment as bishop and the warm welcome he received from rural communities. The performance also highlighted his support for the Christian Agrarian Leagues and his commitment to organizing and defending vulnerable groups.
