Bizarre Klaipeda Incident: Bar Patrons Subdue and Tie Up Assailant with Extension Cord

Klaipeda police are investigating an unusual incident in the city center after a young man unexpectedly attacked an older man in a bar. The assault occurred on Wednesday evening on Martynas Mažvydas Avenue, a pedestrian street bustling with people enjoying the warm weather at outdoor cafes.

Around 9 p.m., a passerby suddenly attacked a man sitting in a bar, attempting to hit him. The victim managed to move away, and the attacker initially left. The victim told bystanders he did not know the assailant and had no prior conflict with him. However, shortly before 9 p.m., the attacker reappeared and struck the unsuspecting man from behind with a punch to the head.

Other bar patrons quickly intervened. Several men rushed to subdue the attacker, pinning him to the ground. While the victim called the police, the aggressive man, who refused to calm down, was turned onto his stomach and tied up with an electrical extension cord taken from the bar. Police arrived within minutes, with two patrol cars responding to the scene.

Officers handcuffed the suspect, untied him, and took him to the Klaipeda County Police Headquarters. The victim reiterated to the officers that he did not know why he was attacked. According to police data, the 41-year-old victim was hit by a 25-year-old assailant. Witnesses suspected the attacker might have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or possibly experiencing mental health issues. Police have not detailed whether the suspect was intoxicated. The suspect was not taken to a detention facility but was issued a summons to appear for questioning.
