BKSDA Sumbar Evacuates Sumatran Tiger That Preyed on Residents' Livestock

A two-year-old Sumatran tiger was safely evacuated from Jorong Palimbatan, Nagari Pasie Laweh, Agam, West Sumatra, on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. The wild animal was successfully lured into a trap cage after being sighted multiple times in the vicinity of residential areas, which had caused significant concern among the local community.

The evacuation process was carried out meticulously by a joint team, including veterinarians, to ensure the safety of both the tiger and the surrounding residents. The tiger was sedated before being moved to a handling location. This operation is part of ongoing efforts to manage human-wildlife conflict in the region.

The Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae) is a protected species, and its population in the wild is a focus of conservation efforts. The careful handling and relocation of this individual underscore the commitment to preserving this endangered species while mitigating risks to the local populace.
