Blue hearts repainted in Pacora to remember victims of 2009 traffic tragedy

Seventeen years after a devastating traffic accident in Pacora, Panama, families of the victims and officials gathered to repaint 24 blue hearts on the road, a poignant symbol of remembrance.

The tragedy occurred on August 13, 2009, when a dump truck collided with a public transport bus, resulting in the deaths of 24 individuals. The repainting ceremony, held in Las Garzas de Pacora, served to keep the memory of those lost alive and to underscore the critical importance of adhering to traffic regulations.

Isaías Marcelino, director of Road Safety and User Defense at the Transit and Land Transport Authority (ATTT), addressed the attendees, appealing for responsible behavior from all road users. "We urge the entire population to respect traffic laws, not exceed speed limits, and avoid driving under the influence of alcohol," Marcelino stated. "Road safety is everyone's responsibility, and with small actions, we can prevent tragedies like the one we remember today."

The event provided a space for reflection and memory for the families who participated in restoring the symbolic blue hearts. The ATTT reiterated its call for caution among drivers and pedestrians, emphasizing that each painted heart represents a life tragically cut short in the 2009 accident.
