BNP wants to repay people’s trust through accountable governance, Tarique says

BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman used the party’s 48th founding anniversary to promise that public trust would be answered with accountable government.

In a message marking the occasion, Tarique said Bangladesh’s people had once again given the BNP responsibility for running the state through a free, fair and neutral election, after what he described as one and a half decades of “fascist rule and exploitation.” He said the BNP government was working to establish the country as a welfare state.

Tarique urged party leaders, activists, supporters and well-wishers to remain committed to serving Bangladesh and preserving the confidence placed in the party. He described the anniversary as a source of joy, enthusiasm and inspiration for the people.

BNP wants to repay the people’s love by establishing an accountable state. With this goal, the BNP government is working tirelessly to establish Bangladesh as a welfare state.

The BNP was founded by former President Ziaur Rahman on Sept. 1, 1978. Tarique called its creation a landmark in the restoration of democracy, saying Ziaur Rahman restored democracy after taking responsibility for governing the country and restored the right of banned political parties to operate.

He praised Ziaur Rahman as the proclaimer of independence, a successful statesman and an architect of modern Bangladesh. He also remembered former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, saying her personality and leadership brought the party into households across the country. Tarique said BNP members had stood with pro-democracy forces and sacrificed their lives when independence, sovereignty and democracy faced threats. He cited past BNP governments’ efforts to restore the parliamentary system and expand women’s education as measures intended to strengthen democracy and promote economic prosperity.

Whenever the country’s independence, sovereignty and democracy came under threat, BNP leaders, supporters and well-wishers sacrificed their lives alongside the pro-democracy people.
