Boca Juniors signs veteran Ecuadorian striker Enner Valencia

Boca Juniors has bolstered its attacking lineup with the official signing of Ecuadorian international Enner Valencia. The 36-year-old forward has agreed to a contract with the Argentine club that will keep him there until December 31, 2027, adding significant experience to the team's front line.

Valencia recently participated in the World Cup held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, representing Ecuador. Following their elimination in the round of 16, Valencia announced his retirement from international duty. He is Ecuador's all-time leading scorer with 49 goals.

His last club was Pachuca in Mexico, where he scored 8 goals in 22 appearances. Throughout his career, Valencia has played for clubs including Emelec in Ecuador, West Ham United and Everton in the English Premier League, Fenerbahçe in Turkey, SC Internacional in Brazil, and Tigres in Mexico. He has won nine club titles, scoring over 190 goals and providing 70 assists. Internationally, he has competed in three World Cups and five Copa América tournaments.

Boca Juniors' decision to sign Valencia comes at a time when the team lacks depth in its attacking positions. Paraguayan forward Adam Bareiro is recovering from an injury, and Milton Giménez has not been performing well recently. The team's primary center-forward at the start of the season has been Uruguayan Miguel Merentiel, who typically plays as a second striker rather than a central reference point.

Under coach Rodolfo Arruabarrena, Boca Juniors has had a challenging start to the Torneo Clausura but managed to advance past the Copa Sudamericana round of 32 via penalties against O'Higgins. They are set to face Recoleta in the round of 16, with the first leg scheduled for August 11 in Buenos Aires.
