Almada's América beats Portland Timbers and nears quarterfinals

The Aguilas of Club América, under the guidance of Uruguayan coach Guillermo Almada, took a significant step towards the Leagues Cup quarterfinals by defeating the Portland Timbers 3-1. The win propelled América to the top of the standings for Mexican teams in the tournament, securing six points from two matches.

Brian Rodríguez opened the scoring for América in the sixth minute with a free-kick, but Kristoffer Velde equalized for the Timbers in the 20th minute after a goalkeeping error. However, América regained the lead in the second half with goals from Isaías Violante and Óscar Perea, sealing their victory.
