Bolivia confirms president's attendance at Fujimori inauguration, bilateral talks

Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz is set to travel to Peru to attend the inauguration of President-elect Keiko Fujimori on July 28. Foreign Minister Fernando Aramayo confirmed the visit, describing Fujimori's inauguration as a "democratic celebration" that Latin American presidents should support. Paz will also hold a bilateral meeting with Fujimori to discuss and advance projects of mutual interest.

During their meeting, Paz and Fujimori are expected to develop a broad agenda for binational cooperation. Aramayo highlighted the relaunch of agreements from a binational technical committee, which both countries will reinstate shortly with financing from CAF-Development Bank of Latin America. This initiative aims to strengthen ties and facilitate collaborative projects between Bolivia and Peru.

Key areas of discussion will include integration projects in Guaqui, a Bolivian town near the shared Lake Titicaca. The leaders will also focus on relaunching joint work concerning the Lake Titicaca basin and the Desaguadero River, alongside addressing migration issues and pending trade matters. An "agenda folclórica" related to both countries' cultural heritage and UNESCO recognition is also on the table.

Furthermore, the strengthening of the Peruvian port of Ilo will be a significant topic. Aramayo emphasized its potential for both commercial and hydrocarbon activities, presenting it as a crucial alternative for Bolivia's foreign trade, which traditionally relies on Chilean ports. Paz is also scheduled to meet with representatives from the Spanish government and the United Arab Emirates during his visit.
