Bolivia Governor Seeks Support for Tax Redistribution Plan, Pledges Infrastructure Projects

Santa Cruz Governor JP Velasco is actively seeking support for a "50/50" proposal aimed at redistributing tax resources to bolster regional governments and municipalities. During a meeting with Yapacaní organizations, Velasco implored the community to back this initiative, which he believes will strengthen subnational governments.

Velasco addressed criticisms regarding his visits to Yapacaní, asserting his commitment to governing the entire Santa Cruz department, not just areas where he has electoral success. He recounted his efforts during past blockades to resolve conflicts, emphasizing his obligation to mediate social disputes despite the limitations of his office's authority over security forces.

Looking ahead, the governor announced that the Faja Norte road paving project will restart within two to three weeks, pending administrative procedures. This 61-kilometer project, with approximately 48 kilometers remaining, is projected to be completed within 10 to 11 months.

The "50/50" proposal, if approved, could channel over 300 million Bolivian pesos to Yapacaní over the next five years, representing a significant structural reform for fiscal decentralization.
