Bolivia confirms president to attend Fujimori's inauguration, bilateral talks planned

Bolivia's Foreign Minister Fernando Aramayo confirmed that President Rodrigo Paz will travel to Peru to attend Keiko Fujimori's presidential inauguration on July 28. Aramayo described Fujimori's inauguration as a "democratic celebration" that "all presidents of Latin America" should attend. This visit signifies a commitment to strengthening bilateral relations between Bolivia and Peru.

Paz and Fujimori are scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting on the morning of July 28 to discuss a "very broad agenda" for binational cooperation. This includes relaunching agreements from a binational technical committee, which will soon be re-established with funding from CAF- a Development Bank of Latin America. Discussions will also cover integration projects in Guaqui, a Bolivian town near Lake Titicaca, and joint work on the Titicaca Lake and Desaguadero River basin.

Further topics include migration issues, a pending trade agenda, and cultural matters related to both countries' heritage recognized by UNESCO. The strengthening of Peru's port of Ilo is also highlighted as a key area for "recovery" due to its "commercial and hydrocarbon" potential. Ilo serves as an alternative trade route for landlocked Bolivia, which typically uses Chilean ports for its foreign trade.

Beyond the meeting with Fujimori, Paz is also expected to meet with representatives from the Spanish government and the United Arab Emirates. The visit underscores Bolivia's intent to foster closer ties and explore new avenues for economic and strategic partnerships in the region.
