Bolivia inaugurates Acheral-Choere highway to boost regional integration

Bolivia has officially opened the Acheral-Choere highway, a significant infrastructure project spanning 17.59 kilometers of asphalt paving. The newly completed road directly links the cities of Tarija, Entre Ríos, Caraparí, and Yacuiba, a border town with Argentina, enhancing connectivity within the Tarija department.

During the inauguration, Caraparí's mayor, Mario Batallanos, presented President Rodrigo Paz with traditional Chaco attire, emphasizing the project's importance for regional development. Batallanos highlighted that the highway will boost commerce and tourism, fulfilling long-held dreams of better integration for the region.

Minister of Public Works Mauricio Zamora underscored the administration's commitment to connecting the Chaco region, noting that President Paz's vision is being executed through various projects. Zamora also mentioned a presidential decree from July declaring the Construction of the Aguaragüe Tunnel, part of the Fundamental Road Network, as a matter of national interest. This tunnel is expected to further strengthen national integration by improving connections to Paraguay, Argentina, and other parts of Bolivia, thereby reducing transportation times and costs.

President Paz expressed his satisfaction with the project, stating, "After so many times swallowing dust and suffering, now we connect our brotherly peoples of the department; there we must generate a huge process of unity." The highway itself features two lanes, each 3.65 meters wide, along with eight viaducts, two bridges, slope stabilization, and drainage systems. The regional manager of the Bolivian Road Administration (ABC) in Tarija, Víctor Demetrio Calabi, confirmed that the final stage alone saw an investment of over 100 million bolivianos, with the current administration credited for reactivating and optimizing the work to ensure its completion.
