Books, Notebooks, Folders: Zagreb and Surrounding Towns Will Provide School Supplies for Students

As the new school year approaches, numerous towns and municipalities surrounding Zagreb are stepping in to ease the financial burden on parents. These local governments are announcing partial or full subsidies for educational expenses, ranging from workbooks to extended school day programs, for the 2026/2027 academic year.

The city of Dugo Selo has committed to financing the costs of workbooks and other educational materials at 50 euros per student for elementary school pupils residing within the city. Additionally, Dugo Selo will continue to subsidize extended school day programs, allocating 150,000 euros for this purpose, with a monthly contribution of 65 euros per student.

Other areas are following suit. Velika Gorica will fund work materials, including workbooks and art supplies, complementing the state's provision of free textbooks. The Rugvica municipality will subsidize textbook purchases for high school students residing there, offering reimbursement after purchase. Rugvica also plans to award financial prizes to outstanding students across different educational levels.

Further support comes from Jakovlje, which will continue funding extended school day programs by covering staff salaries. Dubrava municipality will fully finance workbooks for elementary students, allocating 25,000 euros for the initiative. Zagreb itself will provide other educational materials, such as workbooks, for students in city-run elementary schools, private schools within the city, and institutions within the social welfare system.
