Boy, 12, Dies After Funeral Cross Collapses on Him in Romanian Cemetery

A tragic accident in Vultureni, Cluj County, Romania, has claimed the life of a 12-year-old boy. The child was fatally injured when a funeral cross at a local cemetery collapsed and fell on him. The incident occurred on Thursday evening, casting a shadow of grief over the community.

The boy was reportedly at the cemetery with his father, tending to the grave of his recently deceased grandmother. While near a neighboring tomb, he apparently touched a funeral cross, which became dislodged and fell, trapping him. Emergency services, including police, firefighters, and a SMURD helicopter, responded swiftly to the scene.

Medics attempted to resuscitate the boy for approximately an hour and a half, but their efforts were ultimately unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at 8:20 PM. The local mayor expressed the community's shock, describing the boy as a well-known local child who grew up with his grandmother. Police have launched a criminal investigation into the incident, classifying it as involuntary manslaughter, as they work to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
