Masked youth arrested for school theft in Bucharest

Police in Bucharest have arrested a 20-year-old man suspected of stealing approximately 10,000 lei (about $2,200 USD) worth of items from a school in Sector 3. The incident occurred on the night of June 20-21, 2026.

The suspect, wearing a mask to conceal his identity, allegedly broke into the educational institution. Stolen items included laptops, monitors, portable speakers, and various school supplies and educational games for children. The school's director reported the theft on June 22 via a 112 emergency call.

Investigators identified and apprehended a suspect on June 23. Authorities managed to recover a portion of the stolen goods and returned them to the school. The 20-year-old was detained for 24 hours and will face a judge with a proposal for a preventive measure. The investigation, coordinated by the Prosecutor's Office at the Sector 3 Court, continues under charges of aggravated theft.

The probatory evidence showed that, during the night of June 20/21 of this year, the young man allegedly entered the school premises, wearing a mask to avoid recognition, and stole several items, including laptops, monitors, portable speakers, and various school supplies and educational games for children, causing damage of approximately 10,000 lei.
