Brake failure injures eight passengers in Plateau auto crash

Eight passengers sustained injuries when a commercial bus reportedly suffered brake failure and crashed in Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria.

The Sharon bus was en route from Namu in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area to Jos when it lost control and crashed at approximately 3 p.m. on Wednesday. According to a local resident, one female passenger suffered serious injuries and was taken to the General Hospital in Pankshin, while others sustained minor injuries.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Plateau State Command, confirmed the incident, stating that preliminary investigations point to brake failure as the cause. The command's Public Education Officer, Route Commander Peter Longsan, reported that no lives were lost in the accident. The victims were passengers returning from the market.

Longsan noted that FRSC officials arrived at the scene after members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) had already evacuated the injured passengers, as the driver was one of their members. The victims were transported to Cottage Hospital, Chip, and other nearby health facilities for treatment. Due to the early evacuation, the exact number of casualties could not be immediately confirmed by the FRSC. The FRSC urged motorists to ensure their vehicles are in good mechanical condition, emphasizing regular checks of braking systems before journeys.
