Brandenburg opens first university dental clinic

Brandenburg now boasts its first university dental clinic, a new facility opened by the Brandenburg Medical School (MHB) in Brandenburg an der Havel. This expansion aims to enhance both patient care and educational opportunities within the region.

The clinic is housed in a protected historic building, the former E-Werk, and integrates patient services with teaching and research activities. It is a key component of the MHB's model dental program, which was launched in 2024. Initially, the clinic will offer five treatment chairs, with plans to expand to approximately 40 chairs over time. The first patients began receiving care in early August.

From a historically impressive but dilapidated building, a state-of-the-art location for patients, students, research, and teaching has emerged.

State Secretary for Science Tobias Dünow hailed the opening as a milestone, noting the transformation of a historically significant but dilapidated structure into a modern center for patients, students, and researchers. The MHB's dental department highlighted the need for such a facility, pointing to growing numbers of people lacking adequate dental care and a decline in independent dental practices.

The MHB, established in 2014, is a state-recognized university with multiple campuses across Brandenburg. It collaborates with numerous hospitals and practices, offering programs in human medicine, dentistry, and psychology to around 1,300 students. The opening of this dental clinic is seen as a significant step in addressing regional healthcare needs.
