Brazil's Tereza Cristina signals openness to vice presidency on Flávio Bolsonaro's ticket

Senator Tereza Cristina has signaled a potential shift in her stance, indicating for the first time that she might accept a vice-presidential candidacy on Senator Flávio Bolsonaro's ticket. This development follows recent pressure from the Bolsonaro family and prominent agricultural leaders, who have been urging her to consider the role.

Cristina had previously been entirely against the idea. However, sources close to the situation suggest she has been under significant pressure in recent days. The finalization of any ticket, however, depends on a complex negotiation between the PL party and the federation formed by the PP, Cristina's party, and the União Brasil party. Members of the PP have expressed resistance to such an alliance, with party president Senator Ciro Nogueira reportedly consulting leaders who largely favor neutrality over supporting Flávio Bolsonaro.

In a statement released Thursday, Cristina clarified that "nothing has been decided" regarding the vice-presidency. She described her conversation with Flávio Bolsonaro as "productive" and emphasized that any decision would require "party agreements." "In the meeting, which was productive, the vice-presidency was discussed for the first time, but nothing was decided – especially since any ticket composition depends on political and personal assessments, as well as party consultations and agreements," she stated. Securing Cristina for Flávio's ticket has become a top priority for the national president of the PL party, Valdemar Costa Neto.
