Brazil's Women Minister Urges Female Voters to Back Action on Gender Equality

Brazil's Minister of Women, Márcia Lopes, has called on female voters to critically assess presidential candidates, urging them to vote for those who have a proven track record of supporting women's rights and combating gender-based violence.

She detailed several government actions under President Lula's administration aimed at empowering women and combating violence. These include the establishment of the Ministry of Women, which she believes provides greater political strength, and a national pact against femicide. Since February, over 21,000 aggressors have been arrested, and 30,000 electronic ankle monitors have been distributed.

The minister made these remarks during the launch of a campaign by the União Geral dos Trabalhadores (UGT) against gender violence in São Paulo.
