Brazil trains without 7 starters ahead of Scotland clash

Brazil held a training session on Sunday without seven of its key players, including its entire starting defense, as it prepares for Wednesday's World Cup 2026 match against Scotland. The team is aiming to officially secure its spot in the Round of 16 with a victory.

Among the absentees were fullbacks Danilo and Douglas Santos, center-backs Marquinhos and Gabriel Magalhães, midfielder Casemiro, forward Matheus Cunha, and winger Raphinha. These players were reportedly undergoing regenerative work in the gym, according to a source from the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF).

Raphinha suffered a right thigh muscle injury during Brazil's 3-0 win over Haiti and is confirmed to be out for the match against Scotland in Miami. The CBF announced intensive treatment is underway to recover the FC Barcelona star, but his return to the World Cup is uncertain due to previous injuries.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti led the practice session with the 16 available outfield players, including Neymar, who is expected to play after a month-long absence due to a calf injury. Brazil currently leads Group C with four points and needs just one point to advance. Scotland, with three points, needs a draw to have a chance of progressing.
