Brazilian justice denies Bolsonaro Father's Day visit request

Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes has denied a request for former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro to receive visitors while under house arrest on Father's Day. Bolsonaro, who is serving his sentence in Brasília, was prohibited from having guests on Sunday, August 9.

Justice Moraes cited a previous decision made on July 17, which suspended all visits for a 30-day period. This earlier ruling stipulated that Bolsonaro could only receive medical and physical therapy appointments, as well as visits from his legal team and designated "permanent" visitors.

The July decision followed an incident where Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, the former president's son, read a letter from his father, designating him as a spokesperson. This action violated the terms of Bolsonaro's house arrest, which prohibits him from disseminating political-election-related manifestos, even through third parties. While Bolsonaro's children are authorized for "permanent visits," these are restricted to specific days and time slots, typically Wednesdays and Saturdays, for two hours each.
